The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been designated by the Independent Election Commission of Iraq (IECI) to organize the Out of Country Voting (OCV) for Iraqis living in certain countries outside Iraq for the 2005 Iraqi National Assembly Election.

The process will consist of in-person electoral registration, display of voter register, and voting. The IOM-OCV Country Office of The Netherlands is looking for qualified Iraqi Nationals to work in one of our three main areas of activity: Voter Education; Training; Logistics/Communications.

 

Position Title: Various (10 positions)

Duty Station: Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Classification: Employee, all inclusive salary

Type of Appointment: one month, automatically renewable to a maximum of three months

 

Under the supervision of IOM-OCV International Staff, in the three different areas, the following tasks, among others, will have to be performed:

 

Logistics: Assist in the coordination, in the planning and in the execution of procurement, logistic operations and material movements as well as various other aspects of project implementation; Communications/IT: Assist in the set up and maintenance of an efficient information technology system;

 

Training: Assist in scheduling, organising and conducting Training sessions for Registration and Polling Staff; Translating training materials being sent from HQ and/or adapting them to local needs.

 

Voter Education: Assist in developing a Voter Education Strategy for the Iraqi population in the Netherlands; Participate in training sessions; Frequent liaison with the various Iraqi NGOs, community based groups and the Iraqi population. Ensure distribution of physical Voter Education materials; Focus on increasing Iraqi refugee population’s knowledge about, and participation in, the political process through effective voter/civic education and supporting the development of a credible electoral administration; Close cooperation with local media outlets in order to increase understanding and acceptance of the OCV program.

We are also looking for a graphic designer.

 

Desirable Qualifications: Depending on the field you are applying for, relevant practical experience in the field of election administration and operations is an asset; Depending on the field you are applying for, a minimum of three years professional experience in education and training, public information and media, logistics, Communications/IT. Excellent computer skills. Excellent communication, written and oral skills. Strong analytical skills, strategic and creative thinking. Personal interest, commitment, efficiency, flexibility and willingness to work in a highly motivated team of professionals. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds. Ability to adapt to difficult working environment, under pressure and with limited timeframes. Immediate availability.

 

Languages: Excellent knowledge of Dutch; English; Arabic and/or Kurdish.
